Current Positions:

Litigation Paralegal - graduate of paralegal program preferred but consideration will be given to a candidate with extensive paralegal experience. The job description is as follows:

General

  • Client contact, including telephone discussions and meetings.
  • Obtain, review/analyze, summarize, organize and index documents produced.
  • Document filings, record-keeping and preparing chronologies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of rules of civil procedure and local Rules of Court.
  • Maintain current knowledge of court forms and procedures for filing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of computerized information retrieval systems and research systems.
  • Maintain current knowledge of interview and investigation techniques.
  • Perform legal, non-legal and medical research.
  • Check sites and note-up case law.
  • Draft legal memoranda and/or briefs.
  • Take instructions from lawyer responsible for files.

 

Commencement of Action

  • Draft, file and serve Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim for both tort and Part VII actions.
  • Draft, file and serve answer or other responsive pleadings.
  • Conduct or supervise fact investigation (i.e. interview witnesses, review and consider evidence including circumstantial, financial and medical).
  • Draft correspondence.
  • Maintain calendar.

 

Discovery

  • Draft demands for discovery of documents.
  • Draft lists of documents.
  • Prepare and deliver appointments to examine for discovery.
  • Arrange for court reporters and/or videotape technicians.
  • Review and assemble documents to be used at examinations.
  • Prepare witnesses and clients for examinations.
  • Digest examination transcripts.
  • Respond to interrogatories, document production.
  • Draft applications for chambers hearings, including Notice of Motion and Affidavits.
  • Arrange for and work with expert witnesses.
  • Obtain, review and analyze medical records.
  • Obtain, review and organize damages information; calculate damages and prepare, maintain and update damage summaries.
  • File maintenance.

 

Trial

  • Draft pre-trial statements.
  • Prepare and serve trial subpoenas.
  • Organize and mark trial exhibits.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of graphs and demonstrative exhibits for use at trial.
  • Prepare trial books.
  • Prepare and coordinate lay and expert witnesses.

 

Post-Trial

  • Draft memorandum of costs or motion to tax costs.
  • Draft notice of appeal.
  • Prepare certificates of judgment.

 

Settlement

  • Prepare settlement calculations and proposals.
  • Draft settlement documents, including releases and dismissals.
  • Draft mediation briefs.
