We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our Land Development Team. Our paralegals are crucial to the success of our firm. We are looking for someone who is not only a team player but possesses superior organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to handle a high volume of work with tight deadlines, and has a keen attention to detail.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparing and processing a variety of legal documentation for routine and complex land transactions;
- Independently drafting, compiling, reviewing and processing a variety of documents;
- Identifying available mechanisms to achieve various complex land title registrations and transfers by conducting legal and property related reviews;
- Ensuring compliance with obligations under contracts including insurance, environmental requirements, and rent;
- Reviewing and registering land survey plans with supporting documentation;
- Reviewing titles and charges to identify implications on current transactions and providing summaries to clients and lawyers;
- Researching and applying historical and current legislation;
- Liaising with all internal and external parties involved with the agreement, transaction or interest in land, including preparation of correspondence;
- Adhering to document management and time recording practices;
- Maintaining an organized diarization system;
- Using systems such as PC Law, BC Online, myLTSA, Worldox, BC Registries and Online Services; and
- Undertaking other administrative duties as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience as a paralegal, or equivalent experience;
- Paralegal certification from an accredited post-secondary institution, or equivalent education and experience;
- General solicitor experience is an asset;
- Strong understanding of BC Land Title Office registration requirements and experience with electronic registrations and web filing platform;
- Excellent organizational and communication skills;
- Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and independently manage files;
- Impeccable proofreading, grammar skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent research skills;
- Highly dependable and adaptable, with great work ethic;
- The ability to communicate effectively and think strategically;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and flexibility to learn internal computer systems and processes;
- Ability to exercise discretion and respect confidentiality; and
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships by working collaboratively in a team setting.
